For snow birds in particular, many  insurance policies require you to have someone make visits to your home while you’re away to watch for potential water damage, fire hazards, structural damage that can result from extreme weather and of course, burglary.

Be sure to check your homeowner’s insurance policy for any limitations or restrictions on coverage for when your home is unoccupied during the time you are away.
